On 1 January 2026, Müller-Guttenbrunn GmbH acquired Unger GmbH in Loosdorf. The waste disposal company expands the Group’s portfolio towards becoming a full-service provider in the recycling sector. Maximilian Müller-Guttenbrunn has taken over as managing director.

The roots of Entsorgungen Unger GmbH in Loosdorf date back to the 1950s. Until its sale to Müller-Guttenbrunn GmbH, the company, which quickly became an established player in the region after its foundation, was family-owned. Unger had been in business contact with Müller-Guttenbrunn for decades as a waste disposal company. When the decision to sell the family business was made, owner Walter Unger approached Müller-Guttenbrunn. Sales negotiations were initiated and concluded successfully for both parties at the end of 2025.
The managing director in Loosdorf is Maximilian Müller-Guttenbrunn, son of MGG CEO Christian Müller-Guttenbrunn. He is full of praise when he talks about the handover of the company: ‘Even the sales negotiations were characterised by a handshake mentality and mutual respect. When the contract was just a formality, I was already allowed to get a taste of the company. I was welcomed with open arms, was able to look at documents and even pick up a few practical details directly from Walter Unger.’

When the need arises, Maximilian Müller-Guttenbrunn also supports his team in their work on site.
The staff was taken over by Müller-Guttenbrunn, which ensures that the company’s know-how is retained and that the business can continue to run smoothly. Maximilian Müller-Guttenbrunn and his small, talented team have been working closely together since the takeover to successfully navigate what has been a challenging time despite everything. The team provides their new boss with all the support he needs to get to know the company as quickly as possible. In return, they receive a great deal of respect.
And when things get tight, Max, as he is known, also lends a hand himself, something he learned in his own family business. „When you serve such a wide range of customers with a small staff, it is essential to stick together and support each other. Our cooperation was put to the test right from the start, as we had to compensate for a number of sick leaves. It was a matter of course for everyone to step in where necessary. I also stood at the materials reception and helped out; that was no problem for me. The team spirit and attitude towards shared values and goals here are very similar to those of the Müller-Guttenbrunn Group, which makes me very optimistic about the future.“
Waste disposal company in Loosdorf is a regional player
Unger offers a wide range of services for the region. One of the core competencies of this diversified company is its container and skip service for everyone, including private individuals and house builders. The company has around 500 containers and skips available for waste disposal within a radius of approximately 60 kilometres. The skips are delivered to the site using the company’s own vehicles, emptied as required and collected again once the job is complete. At the facility – which is purely a transhipment point – the material is roughly separated using an excavator, and the rest is then sorted by hand by two people. The fractions are sold or sent for disposal. The company accepts construction waste, concrete, scrap iron, metals, electronic waste, cardboard, waste wood, eternit, insulation wool, car tyres, green waste and residual waste. Private individuals and small businesses can take advantage of the opportunity to deliver their waste themselves. Bulky waste collection services are offered to municipalities.

Unger in Loosdorf is a collection point for end-of-life vehicles, which are taken to Metrec in Amstetten for decontamination.
End-of-life vehicles are also accepted and can be collected on request. They are temporarily stored on site and later transported to Amstetten for decontamination and subsequent shredding. In addition to the waste disposal business, a new iron trade is operated directly on site, where not only high-quality new iron such as flat iron, U-iron or shaped tubes – and, most recently, Doka formwork panels – can be purchased.
What is needed now and what comes next
According to Maximilian Müller-Guttenbrunn, no major changes are planned for the time being. ‘The focus right now is on keeping the existing business running as before. At the same time, I am working on getting to know our partner companies personally so that the current business relationships remain intact.’ The new managing director has also already familiarised himself with urgent investments that need to be made: ‘The top priority is to carry out some repairs on the machines so that they can function reliably again. In addition, there are some ideas that need to be examined more closely. After only a few weeks here in Loosdorf, it is still too early to make any concrete statements about changes or investments.’
Maximilian Müller-Guttenbrunn has also already thought about possible synergies that could arise within the group as a result of the purchase of Unger GmbH, but is currently still cautious. „Here, too, the time is not yet right to make any informed statements on this subject. I am sure that the acquisition of Unger GmbH will open up opportunities offer potential. I don’t think it’s a disadvantage for Müller-Guttenbrunn to be able to expand its sphere of influence to eastern Lower Austria. With the addition of a waste disposal company, the group will also be able to act as a ‘full-service provider’ in the future. This is not so much an issue for very large customers, but it is certainly an exciting prospect for small and medium-sized businesses. In addition, we will also be able to process fractions such as waste wood, residual waste and construction waste, which we previously had to pass on, internally.“

Maximilian Müller-Guttenbrunn has big plans for the Loosdorf site. The company offers potential, and the upcoming changes are being carefully planned and implemented.
Collection and sorting: crucial preliminary stage of recycling
With the acquisition of Unger, the Müller-Guttenbrunn Group now has the preliminary stage of recycling in-house. The collection and sorting of a wide variety of fractions is an essential component of successful recycling. Before the various fractions can be fed into the recycling process, they must be collected, separated by material and sorted. This phase is often underestimated, even though it is crucial to the efficiency of the subsequent processes.
‘In due course, we will develop concepts for how we can perfectly integrate this newly acquired expertise into our existing company concept,’ says Maximilien Müller-Guttenbrunn, venturing a glimpse into the not-too-distant future. ‘My employees have a wealth of knowledge thanks to their many years of experience. Combined with the experience I have gained within the Müller-Guttenbrunn Group, we will get the most out of the Loosdorf site. We have already grown into a close-knit team in a short space of time and I am looking forward to what lies ahead.’
